Saraswati Day in Bali fall on saturday 19/11/2011

Sarswati day  is one of Balinese Hindu special day. Balinese Hindu believe that Saraswati is the day of the descending of knowledge. It is celebrated at the last day of the Balinese Calender, being the Saturday of it's last week, Watugunung. And according to the Balinese Calender, this coming Saturday (19 November 2011) is Saraswati Day.

On this special day, the Balinese Hindu will make offerings for books and especially the sacred Lontar, The celebration of Saraswati Day is to worship Dewi Saraswati, the manifestation of Supreme God as Goddes of Science and Knowledge.  Special ceremony are held at schools, the students and teacher will pray together in their school's temple to pray for their succes in study. While the celebration is going on, one is not supposed to read.
The philosophy of Saraswati Day is that the most important thing for human life is knowledge.

The day after Saraswati Day is called Banyu Pinaruh Day. Banyu Pinaruh is derived from the words Banyu and Pinaruh. Banyu means water and Pinaruh means wisdom. On this day, in the early morning people will go to the beaches, rivers, and springs to purify themselves and pray for wisdom. Actually, the day of Banyu Pinaruh mean that the people must have wisdom which always flows like water and is useful for human kind. Enjoy your Bali Holiday !
